Producing
mutations in bacteria |
|
|
|
Introduction:
There are many causes of
mutation and some of them can lead to complex and unusual types of
mutations. Mutations in bacteria also happen naturally for the
purpose of adaptation to new environmental factors. This type of
mutation is called directed mutation. Also external factors such
as radiation can potentially result in mutations. The most
common form of mutation is caused by antibiotics, resulting in new
strands of bacteria that are resistant to the antibiotic.

Project
description:
In this project you will experiment with bacteria mutation and find a strand
of a certain bacterium that is resistant to a certain antibiotic. You
may perform your experiments on household bacteria or you may purchase a
known strand of a certain bacterium. |
