Water Supports
Heavy Weights |

Introduction
When you place a heavy object in water, it sinks. Only wood
and very light objects can float on the water. With this in mind,
how can heavy objects remain floating on the surface of
water.
In this project we will study
different mechanisms or factors that may keep an object floating
on the surface of water. |

Material and instructions
In this project we may focus
on two different types of floatation. First type deals with heavy objects such
as ships made from heavy steel. Second type deals with small objects with
higher density than water. This is a display project, however if you
would like to do it as an experimental project you may start with the
following question:
What conditions may result in the floatation
of objects on water?
Materials that you may need for this
experiment can be found at home or obtained locally.
