Genetic studies can be performed to identify the effect of a gene on properties and characteristics of any organism. (A gene is a hereditary unit that occupies a specific location on a chromosome and determines a particular characteristic in an organism.) We may perform genetic studies on humans, animals, plants and even bacteria. Every genetic study will focus on a different characteristic of the subject.
