Electroplating-
the principles, how different metals can be used and the practical
applications |
|

|
Introduction
Iron and brass are
two widely used and easily available metals used in manufacturing
parts. Although these two metals are inexpensive, easy to form and
strong, they both rust and corrode in the air. To prevent rusting,
they are often covered with oil, plastic, paint or a layer of
other metals that don't rust such as chromium. |

Project
description
In this project you will experiment electroplating and deposit a layer
of one metal in the other. Although the purpose of this project is
learning the principals of electroplating, you may choose to study the
effect of different variables such as temperature and pH on the process
of electroplating. Adult supervision and safety
precautions are required while working with chemicals and hazardous
objects. |
