Make Synthetic Fiber

Introduction:
For many years wool and cotton have been the only sources of fiber for people to make fabric, clothes, carpets and strings. In the early 1900 the first synthetic fibers were made. Some of these synthetic fibers were actually made using natural cellulose fiber.
Short cellulose fibers can not be used in textile, so scientists came up with the idea of dissolving short cellulose fibers and reproducing long synthetic fibers. Another benefit of this process is creating fiber filaments that are smooth like silk and not fuzzy like natural cotton.

 Project description:
In this project you will experiment making synthetic fibers. You will also demonstrate and report how early synthetic fibers were made. Do you think that all cellulose based materials such as wood and paper can be converted to synthetic fiber?
